My Grandmother (and soul mate). My "Nana" was an incredibly talented seamstress, pattern maker, milliner and taught at the Newcastle Grammar School ( Newcastle NSW - my hometown) for 40 years. We shared the same birthday and I used to spend every week at her house. I couldn't get enough of her. Fabrics, patterns, needlework and the most incredible books on costume history surrounded always her. She was always creating. Nana was also one of the most resilient and resourceful people I knew. She was orphaned at the tender age of 11 and was financially looked after by Legacy. She took nothing for granted, worked tirelessly, reused, recycled and was composting before anyone really knew what that was. Nana sparked my creative side and whilst she is no longer with us, I continue to talk to her every day.
What are you favourite colours right now?
That's a really difficult question to answer! I have my go-to classic colours that always seem to adorn my house or wardrobe. These are classic neutral shades of greys, whites, black and neutral tones. Depending on my mood, however, sometimes throwing in a bright splash of mustard, pink or khaki can make me feel energised and happy. I also love classic Navy, you can never go wrong with that
Do you have a favourite story or journey that influences your work?
Absolutely. "Eadie" is a character that I step into when I design the collection. The brand was created from this beautiful character and I know her well. I know the flowers she has in her apartment, the wine she drinks, the artwork she loves and the friendships she keeps. Eadie is constantly taking me on adventures through her travels, love affairs, experiences and emotions. Each and every style in our Eadie Lifestyle collection is based on one of her adventures; whether it be a long, lazy lunch in the countryside, or a romantic getaway on the Amalfi Coast. Eadie is my creative compass and her rich, adventurous life has a great influence on the designs we create.
Peru. In January I spent 3 glorious weeks there visiting Macchu Piccu and the Sacred Valley, where I attended a 10 day women's retreat. It was a life changing trip and Mother Nature's beauty overwhelmed me. The Andes were so beautiful, fresh air, majestic mountains and the happiest people on earth. I came back feeling more connected to my loved ones and Mother Earth. I can't wait to go back.
